Gather all of your tools up so you can examine them. Remove any that you never use and know you will never use and ones that are broken beyond repair, you can throw out the broken ones and donate the others. Sort the tools that you have and clean any that need it. Keeping your tools in good condition will help them last longer. With the aid of many different kinds of tool organizers you can sort your tools very easily. Store your small tools in a tool box with the most used ones on top. Hang up larger tools.

Feel free to hang up all of your tools on a peg board but a tool box will make for a quicker move when you need to take several small tools out of the garage for a project. If a tool box is not something that you plan to have consider using a bucket apron. It is great for organizing all of your smaller tools in its pockets and the larger tools can go in the bucket. This way you'll make one trip when carrying big and small tools from room to room.

If you decide to use a peg board to hold your tools there is something that you can do so you know where to put a tool back. Keeping like tools together on the peg board will help, but something that will ensure that tools end up in the right place is outlining them. Once you have all of your tools in the places that you want them on the peg board, draw around them with a permanent marker making an outline of the tool.
