The first step of course is to empty the kitchen area by area, or section by section, you can leave the food items in the fridge and freezer though. Take this time of an empty kitchen to clean the counter and cupboards. Throw out any food items that are expired, stale or spoiled as well, you may also take the time to remove anything that you know you will never use.

Sort everything that you use in to its like items, plates with plates, cups with cups, etc. Then sort those piles into two separate piles, one pile of the things that you use regularly and one pile for the things that you use occasionally. When you design where to organize everything in your kitchen you can keep the things that you use regularly at easy to reach places and the things that you only use occasionally, such as seasonal cookware, can be tucked away where they can still be reached but they don't have to be in prime cabinet space. To get everything to fit properly and so you can reach it easily use an array of kitchen organizers.
